The mayor of Sandy on Wednesday declared a state of emergency to help with flooding mitigation as Utah's historic snowpack continues to melt. The move from Mayor Monica Zoltanski opens up opportunities for the city to receive both state and federal money to help address flooding issues caused by high levels of snowmelt east of the city, according to the proclamation . Flooding continues to impact the area around Little Cottonwood Creek. Extra resources made available by declaring a state of emergency will allow for the city to more efficiently mitigate the problem, the proclamation states.
