SANDY, Utah (KUTV) — In an effort to secure resources for potential flooding, Sandy City Mayor Monica Zoltanski on Wednesday issued a state of emergency effective immediately. The preemptive action comes as the last of Utah's record-breaking snowpack melts and feeds the rivers and streams near, at or over capacity as they reach valley floors. The city has been proactively clearing debris from waterways, according to a statement from the mayor's office, noting that clogged drainage systems have been the root of the problem in many areas during the runoff.
